Job Title: Health and Safety Manager
Locations: 182-188 Cambrai Street, Belfast, BT13 3JH
Contract: Permanent
Responsible To: Head of Manufacturing and Production
Objective: Working efficiently and effectively to ensure Health and Safety and Management Systems in place.
Hours: 35 (Monday to Thursday 8.15am-4.30pm, Friday 8.15am-12.15pm)
Salary: £33, 187 to £37, 353 per annum (new appointees normally start at the bottom of the scale)
Job Description:
- Ensure a safe workplace environment without risk to health.
- Ensure that all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules, and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated, and communicated.
- Ensure Usel meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety, and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting.
- Ensure the completion and regular review of risk assessments for all work equipment and operations throughout the business.
- Ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated, and recommended improvements implemented.
- Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, safety inspections, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed, and employees are aware of their responsibilities throughout the business.
- Co-ordinate, develop and implement comprehensive health & safety policies, systems of work and procedures throughout the business to ensure a safe working environment.
- Ensure full and accurate health and safety and training records are maintained.
- Liaise with external health & safety consultants in the provision of training programmes and health and safety services.
- Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety & welfare at work legislation to ensure compliance and collaborate with management to ensure communication of relevant changes to the business.
- Coordinate the Health and Safety Committee Meeting and produce meeting minutes.
- Ensure actions from health and safety inspections are closed out.
- Scheduling any H&S training needed within the organisation.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Investigate workplace incidents, accidents and near misses and provide detailed reports with recommendations for prevention.
- Working with contractors to ensure any necessary paperwork is provided prior to coming on site.
- Lead emergency response planning and drills to ensure preparedness for various scenarios.
- Assist with the maintenance and development of Usel’s ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 certifications.
- Any other reasonable duties which may be required by management from time to time.
- To be aware of and adhere to all Usel’s Policies and Procedures
- Ensure all facilities throughout the business are to a reasonable standard. • Reporting on Health and Safety key performance indicators
Person Specification:
Essential:
- At least 3 years recent experience in managing Health and Safety within a business environment.
- Experience of delivery health and safety training
- Provision of advice to managers/supervisors
- Handling of H&S investigations
- Experience of formulating, implementing, and revising H&S policies and procedures.
- Proven ability in the use of excel and word.
- IT, budget, and report writing skills.
- Driving Licence and access to a car (if the effects of a disability preclude an individual from holding a driving licence, then they should indicate how they could meet the mobility requirements of the post).
Desirable:
- NEBOSH Diploma or willing to work towards a NEBOSH Diploma
- Good planning and organisational skills.
- The ability to work calmly under pressure.
