Conversations on Future Structures, Relationships & the Voice of Young People

This event is part of a sector‑led process that began in 2024, when voluntary youth organisations came together to explore what the sector needs to thrive, led by the Voluntary Youth Work Co-ordinating Committee. Over 150 people contributed to that first phase, informing the report - The Future of Voluntary Youth Work in Northern Ireland

In 2025, the collaboration continued with further engagement and Dr Elizabeth McArdle’s research, How to grow the voluntary youth work sector in Northern Ireland

From this work, the message was clear:

  • the sector needs stronger infrastructure,
  • deeper trust and relationships, and
  • a more confident collective voice.

We are now entering a crucial next phase, and your insight is needed.

About This Session
This is one of five regional conversations across Northern Ireland. It will be highly interactive, giving organisations space to share experiences and help shape what a healthy and connected voluntary youth work ecosystem should look like.

Together, we’ll look at:

  • What support and infrastructure is needed locally
  • How relationships and communication can be strengthened
  • What values and priorities should guide future collaboration
  • What supports or coordination mechanisms would make a real difference

Your contribution will directly shape the sector’s next steps.

Who Should Attend
Voluntary youth work groups and organisations of all sizes — volunteers, staff, managers, leaders and trustees.
