Overview

Overview

Grants are available for groups who have already received an access grant from the programme, and need further funding to develop and grow their football activities for those hardest to reach young people.

In 2024, they want to make sure their funding is reaching communities in greatest need who are supporting young people from underrepresented groups. As such, they will only accept applications from groups working in the most deprived areas across the UK.

What does 'deep impact' mean?

Applicants will need to demonstrate that their football activities will have a profound and lasting impact on one or more of the following underrepresented groups of young people:

  • women girls,
  • racially diverse communities,
  • young people with disabilities,
  • from the LGBTQ+ community, and
  • from lower socio-economic areas.

They want to fund groups with a strong track record of delivering services to their target beneficiaries, who can demonstrate that they are responding to local need, and enabling young people to participate in inclusive activities which will improve their lives beyond football.

They will need you to demonstrate that you are operating in an area of high deprivation (IMD 1-3) and the challenges faced by the young people you support.

They will consider disability football applications from groups that sit outside of IMD areas 1-3.

Applications should meet the following criteria:

  1. You should have a specific project in mind, which focuses on the inclusion of young people from underrepresented groups.
  2. You know and understand your local community and can bring to life the challenges faced in the local area.
  3. You are able to demonstrate that your project is needed, through consultation with local young people and the wider community.
  4. You know how much you need, what you plan to spend it on and you have other funding to support your delivery.
  5. Your project is about more than just football and will provide lasting change. You are able to demonstrate the positive impact it will have on the young people reached and the wider community.

Who Can Apply?

Their deep impact grants are for existing grantees, who have already received a £500 access grant from the Barclays Community Football Fund in 2022 or 2023. You can apply for further funding to develop and grow your football activities for those hardest to reach young people. Alternatively, some organisations will be contacted directly to apply.

In 2024, theyare looking to support organisations who are working in the most deprived areas across the UK. They will use the Government Indices of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) and will only accept applications from organisations based in and/or supporting young people from IMD areas 1-3.

They recognise the disproportionate impact that the pandemic and cost of living crisis has had on young people with disabilities and will consider disability football applications from groups that sit outside of IMD areas 1-3.

How much can you apply for

Deep impact grants offer funding of up to £5,000.

They ask you to be realistic in how much funding you need to carry out your project. The funding you require should be based on the outcomes you plan to achieve and the impact this will have. If your application is successful, they may not be able to offer you the full amount you asked for. This is so they can reach as many organisations as possible with their funding.

The funding will ideally be spent within nine months to one year, to allow them to monitor the impact of the programme.

Eligible Expenditure

The funding can be used for anything that will support your delivery of football activities to underrepresented groups. Typical examples of costs might include a contribution towards:

  • Venue hire
  • Coaching costs
  • Volunteer expenses
  • Equipment
  • Kit
  • Marketing and communications
  • Training and qualifications
  • Insurances and affiliation

Required documents

You will need to attach the following four documents to your application.

  • A governing document, e.g. Constitution or Articles of Association. This is so we can ensure you are a not-for-profit organisation benefiting the local community. Unfortunately, we are unable to fund Sole Traders or Companies limited by shares.
  • An up-to-date safeguarding policy, signed and dated, with a date for review. Your policy needs to detail a named lead safeguarding officer, a process for reporting concerns, and clear recruitment / training guidelines for paid and voluntary staff including DBS / Disclosure Scotland / Access NI checks.
  • A bank statement in the name of your organisation. The statement needs to be dated within the last 3 months and clearly show the account name, sort code and account number. This is so we can make payment if you are successful. We do not need to see any transactions or balance. We are unable to fund personal bank accounts, so the account name must match that name of the organisation applying.
  • Your organisations most recent set of yearly accounts including profit and loss statement, or your income/expenditure presented at your last AGM. For new groups, they will accept a cash flow statement or budget.
