Overview

Larne Borough Council will consider support for any voluntary group undergoing activities within its statutory and civic remit where there is a benefit to the Larne area.

The grant scheme is designed to support community, events, arts and heritage projects, and sporting events.

Applications will be accepted from properly constituted bodies based in the Borough or operating within the Borough. In the case of voluntary groups, a copy of the organizations constitution will be required. All events must be insured to a level of £5 million Public Liability Insurance. A copy of insurance will need to be submitted to the Council with the event application. Groups not applying for events grants should ensure they have public liability insurance of £2million.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate how their event/ project will contribute to the economy of the area, how they will attract visitors and engage local people, improve community relations, and how their event will seek to be self-supporting and sustainable in the future.

Who Can Apply?

To qualify for a grant under this Scheme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Voluntary Groups should be formally constituted with a current committee (appropriate details are requested in the Application Form).
  • Groups should be based in the Larne Borough Council area or provide a service that is of a clear and direct benefit within the Larne Borough Council area.

Grant Categories and Level of Support

1. Event Grants

Major Event - 50% funding up to £30,000 ( i.e. Council provide a max of 50% funding of £60000) Events with more than 10,000 people in attendance (competitors and spectators combined) N.B. Funding for the event will be reduced on a pro-rata basis if surplus* exceeds £1,000.00.

Medium Event - 50% funding up to £10,000 ( i.e. Council provide a max of 50% funding of £20000) Events with more than 1,000 but less than 10,000 people in attendance (competitors and spectators combined) N.B. Funding for the event will be reduced on a pro-rata basis if Surplus* exceeds £500.00

Small Event - 50% funding up to £1000 ( i.e. Council provide a max of 50% funding of £2000) Events with up to 1000 people in attendance (competitors and spectators combined) N.B. Funding for the event will be reduced on a pro-rata basis if surplus* exceeds £200.00

Definition of Events: Larne Borough Council will support events that contribute to the community, sporting, cultural and tourist development of the Borough.

*Surplus is defined as surplus revenue generated by the event through ticket sales and admission fees. This surplus is restricted and can only be used for the development of future events organised by the applicant organisation. At no point will the applicant be permitted to forward this profit to a third-party, e.g. a nominated charity.

2. Arts, Heritage and Cultural Grants

Arts and Heritage Projects - 50% funding up to £500.00 Grants will be considered to help promote the running of arts, cultural and heritage projects within the Borough.

Arts and Heritage Individual Applications - 50% funding up to £500.00 The funding should be used to encourage cultural and creative activity, including dance, drama, music, poetry and literature, film, visual arts, crafts, and local heritage and traditions.

3. Good Relations Grants for Community

Seeding Grant for newly constituted community based groups established in the last 3 months (Max £300)

Grant for Good Relations Project/Event/Programme 75% of total costs up to a maximum of £1500

The new “Towards Building a United Community” Strategy (the Government’s new strategy for good relations outlines how Government, community and individuals will work together to build a united community and achieve change against the following key priorities:

  1. Our children and young people;
  2. Our shared community;
  3. Our safe community; and
  4. Our cultural expression.

Applicants must illustrate how they are working to address these key priorities.
