Microsoft: Upgrade Your World

Overview

To qualify for the purposes of this Upgrade Your World National Initiative, an eligible nonprofit organization (“Nonprofit”) must have a legally registered account on Twitter.com which provides them with a @nonprofitname address, and meet the following criteria:

  • The organization must operate in a country listed in their Eligible Country Chart
  • The organization must be a nonprofit or non-governmental organization with recognized charitable status in an Eligible Country (equivalent to 501(c)(3) status under the United States Internal Revenue Code).The organization must have a mission to benefit the local community. Missions could include but are not limited to:
  • Providing relief to the poor
  • Advancing education
  • Improving social welfare
  • Preserving culture
  • Preserving or restoring the environment
  • Promoting human rights
  • Establishment of civil society

HOW TO VOTE:

There are three (3) ways to Vote during the Voting Period:

(1) Log in to your Twitter or Instagram account and post, or re-post, Tweet or re-Tweet , a public message which includes the country-specific #UpgradeYourWorld hashtag as described in the Country Chart above, and the hashtag #vote and the social media “@” account for the Nonprofit that you believe best meets the Upgrade Your World National Initiative Theme. Here is an example of an eligible post for a fictional charity to win the prize in Japan: #UpgradeYourWorldjp #vote @contosocharity.

(2) Log in to your Facebook account, visit the specific market Windows page as indicated in the Eligible Country Chart above and find Sponsor's post seeking public vote. Post a comment in response to this post which includes the country-specific #UpgradeYourWorld hashtag as described in the chart above, and the hashtag #vote and the social media “@” account for the Nonprofit that you believe best meets the Upgrade Your World National Initiative Theme.

(3) Visit www.windows.com/upgradeyourworld and follow voting instructions to fill in the name of the Nonprofit that you believe best meets the Upgrade Your World National Initiative Theme to share on Facebook or Twitter.

Optional content: You may also include text, photographs, video, voice, or like media that describes how you or the charity you’re choosing upgrades the world in big and small ways, so long as it meets the criteria described below (“Optional Content”). This is your opportunity to shine a light on what makes your favorite charity special, things you’re doing to help your community and the world. The public message and any Optional Content you post will be referred to as your “Submission” and you may also be called the “Submitter.” All Submissions are subject to the terms and conditions of the social media site where posted. From time to time during the Voting Period Submissions may be featured or highlighted on the Upgrade Your World National Initiative website and through media channels to promote the Upgrade Your World National Initiative. The inclusion or quality of any Optional Content will not be considered and will carry no weight in vote counting; however, if included, Optional Content must meet the following criteria to be eligible:

Must be your original work or you must have verifiable permission from the owner of the work

Cannot contain content that is obscene, offensive, violent, or derogatory

Cannot violate any law, promote alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco, firearms/weapons (or the use of any of the foregoing) or a particular political agenda

Cannot infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party

Each eligible Submission will count as one vote in the Eligible Country associated with the #upgradeyourworld hashtag for the Nonprofit who’s “@” account is listed in the message. Limit one per person per Eligible Account per day. Excess, incomplete or illegible Submissions will be disqualified. We reserve the right to reject any Submission, in our sole discretion, that we determine does not meet the above criteria. Microsoft is not responsible for lost, corrupted or delayed Submissions or the inability to submit for any reason.

Any attempt by any person or Nonprofit to obtain votes by any fraudulent or inappropriate means, including without limitation, offering prizes or other inducements to members of the public, use of any automated programs, using multiple/different email addresses, identities, registrations and logins, Accounts, or any other methods will void that Submitter’s votes and that Submitter and Nonprofit may be disqualified by Microsoft in its sole discretion.
