Overview

The Pipeline Investment Fund (PIF) is a new grant-giving fund established by Music Venue Trust with the support of venue members of the Music Venues Alliance.

PIF is now open for small-scale grant applications (up to £5,000) from UK-based grassroots music venues to support two areas of work:

  • Small-scale capital applications; including lights, sound, access, ventilation and minor building alterations
  • Staff & training; diversifying your workforce, succession planning, skills development, and strengthening local community ties

The fund will prioritise support for organisations who may be excluded from other available funding and they would ask venues to approach the fund appropriately and economically, for something that will make a real difference to your organisation and venue.

PIF is open to all venue operators and organisations that meet any of the three definitions of a Grassroots Music Space available from the MVT Resources page HERE.

Grassroots Music Venue (GMVs) Definition

This definition is the one contained in the Mayor of London’s Music Venues Rescue Plan (October 2015) and agreed at Venues Day 2015 (October 2015) by leading figures from within the music industry and from government.

The definition is being used by Arts Council England and the Department of Culture, Media and Sport in discussions surrounding the future of music venues. It is based upon extensive audits and surveys of UK music venues, and is comparable to the EU-wide definition of similar music venues implemented by Live DMA in more than a dozen European countries.

Three areas underpin the definition

  • Cultural and social role -using reputation, role, and activity to measure.
  • Economic activity - using capacity, employment and financial return as a measure.
  • Amenities and infrastructure as a measure
