Rowing Foundation Grants

Open (ongoing) Children (0-12) Health, wellbeing and sport People with disabilities Sport and physical recreation Young people (13-25) Great Britain Northern Ireland Micro (up to £1,000) Small (up to £10,000)

Overview

Established in 1980 with the aim of “putting young people on the water,” they remain true to this ethos today. They help to fund equipment purchases (boats, blades etc) or boat refurbishments (such as a “hull & tops” service).

Most of their grants go to UK Rowing Clubs – but they also support any club or organisation involved in “on water rowing-type” activities. Recent awards have been made to Gig clubs and Scout groups.

Support for Adaptive Rowers

In recent years, they have broadened the scope of our original charitable trust and now also offer grants to further adaptive rowing at clubs.

They can provide grants to help UK clubs and organisations purchase equipment to assist their Adaptive Rowing programmes, and to encourage Adaptive Rowers of all ages.

They are keen to hear from any organisation to see if a grant might help to get more people with any type of disability out on to the water.

Equipment Grant

They do not give grants to individuals, only to clubs, schools and organisations. The award must be for a specific purpose, not as a contribution to general funds.

  • Most of their grants go to UK Rowing Clubs – but they may also support any club or organisation involved in “on water rowing-type” activities. Recent awards have been made to Gig clubs and Scout groups. They do not award grants for sailing or swimming.

The maximum grant which they will award to any club, school or organisation is £4,000 in any three year period. This can be comprised of a single grant or smaller grants aggregated over the period.

Their grants are awarded as a 50% match to the monies spent on the equipment purchased (up to a maximum of £4,000 including VAT).

They prefer to encourage participation in rowing by the young or disabled through the provision of equipment, such as boats, sculls, oars and essential safety equipment. Coaching, revenue or any commitment requiring long term support are rarely approved.

The Trustees retain absolute discretion when considering grant applications. Broadly, their support requires that applications must be non-elitist and either for the benefit of young people or those in full time education, or for the disabled.

All equipment purchased under this scheme will be required to display a sticker indicating the contribution of the Rowing Foundation. They will provide the stickers.

Refurbishment Grant

  • This scheme is open to any boat belonging to a UK rowing club which is used exclusively for Juniors, those in full-time education or for adaptive rowers of any age.

The maximum grant which they will award to any club, school or organisation is £4,000 in any three year period.  This limit applies as a total across both their equipment grants and refurbishment grants, and can be comprised of a single grant or smaller grants aggregated over the period.

The maximum award is the smaller of £4,000 (including VAT) or 50% of the refurbishment cost of the boat(s) sent to the repairer.  The scope of the refurbishment is a “Hull and Tops Service” and any repair work beyond this must be approved by the Rowing Foundation before the extra work is carried out.

You are responsible for sourcing a quote for the work from a boat repairer of your choice, however they do have arrangements in place with a number of boat repairers throughout the country.

All boats refurbished under this scheme will be required to display a saxboard sticker on each side indicating the contribution of the Rowing Foundation & Henley Royal Regatta Charitable Trust in funding the work. They provide these stickers directly to the boat repairers.
