Overview

What are the SMK Campaigner Awards?

The SMK Campaigner Awards were set up in 2006 to help those fighting for social, economic and environmental change.

The Sheila McKechnie Campaigner Awards are a celebration of people who demonstrate their commitment to and effectiveness in tackling the root causes of injustice and inequality, be it over the last year or over many years. Whether on a local or national basis, they are people who have brought about lasting change within their communities or more widely.

The SMK Awards, from 2006-2013, were broadly a bursary programme combined with recognition of achievement and potential. They were targeted at those just starting out as campaigners, and the winner in each category received a tailored package of support to help them campaign more effectively. This included coaching, a residential training weekend and attending a high-profile awards ceremony.
