The Role: Fundraising, Communications and Engagement Manager

Salary: £35,000 per year

Reports to: CEO

Direct Report: Digital Communications Officer

Officer Hours: 35 hours per week

Overall Purpose of Job

The overall purpose of the role is to provide an effective fundraising, communications and engagement function which aligns with the strategic vision of the organisation. The post holder will increase income generation by submitting successful grant applications, establishing a network of donors by increasing legacy giving. A new communications strategy will need to be implemented to deliver key messages and opportunities across all networks and expand audiences by promoting a vibrant modern youth organisation. External engagement will be very important within this role by establishing new initiatives and programmes that meet the needs of today’s girl.

Fundraising

  • Develop and implement a fundraising strategy for Girlguiding Ulster.
  • Identify sources of funding for existing services and/or new projects and co-ordinate the submission of well researched high quality funding applications that are strategically relevant to Girlguiding Ulster.
  • Co-ordinate and oversee any new programme funding that is successful.
  • Establish a network of donors and ensure that they are appropriately acknowledged in an effective, timely and personal manner. Ensure that appropriate records are kept in line with GDPR regulations.
  • Produce effective, creative and inspiring marketing materials to support fundraising events, mailings, campaigns and initiatives within agreed budgets.
  • Keep abreast of changes within the youth and charity sectors and adapt to keep the fundraising strategy relevant.

Communications

  • Provide line management, supervision and support to the Digital Communications Officer.
  • Develop and implement an effective digital communications strategy for Girlguiding Ulster and any internal projects/programmes, including our website, digital marketing & social media.
  • Use a wide range of media to build and sustain a positive and exciting image of Girlguiding, making sure our organisation is visible, accessible and that girls & volunteers want to stay with us, or join us.
  • Oversee the updating of the Girlguiding Ulster website ensuring it is kept up to date and is relevant to our members needs and is accessible to all.
  • Assist with gathering and developing content (impact stories / photos / videos) from across Girlguiding Ulster for use in communications, for funders and on social media channels.
  • Advise and support colleagues and volunteers in the use of marketing & communications, acting as an ambassador for the Girlguiding brand and identity.
  • Liaise and work with the Girlguiding UK on Marketing & Communications priorities and projects.
  • Contribute to the growth of Girlguiding Ulster’s profile in Northern Ireland by supporting the delivery of internal and external communications to motivate support for Girlguiding Ulster.
  • Promote opportunities to young members on relevant age-appropriate social media networks.
  • Establish media contact lists and analyse all media coverage to identify trends.

Engagement

  • Use audience insight to produce effective marketing plans and deliver communications, marketing materials and projects, to promote Girlguiding to key audiences (e.g. parents, volunteers, young members), across both online and offline channels (e.g. email, web, social media, print, advertising, impact reports)
  • Pro-actively network, engage and build relationships across all relevant platforms and target audiences to develop and grow new opportunities and contacts.
  • Provide regular monitoring, insights, analysis, evaluations and reports to the CEO and Trustee Board on fundraising and communications activity.
  • Identify case studies and experiences within the organisation that will strengthen engagement and support with stakeholders and funders.
  • Coordinate Girlguiding Ulster’s contribution to Girlguiding led initiatives connected with raising the external profile of guiding and challenging public perceptions.

Senior Management

  • Contribute to the strategic leadership of Girlguiding Ulster as a member of the senior management team.
  • Develop and sustain links with external agencies in Northern Ireland as needed.
  • Proactively engage with Girlguiding UK to ensure effective collaboration in all aspects of work.
  • Participate in regular supervision and performance development reviews, and help in identifying your own job-related development and training needs.
  • Carry out such other duties not detailed above as required to support the fundraising, communication and engagement function.

General Information

This is a senior management role. It is a full-time position based in our Headquarters at Lorne Estate, Holywood There may be an option for limited hybrid working which can be negotiated once an established work plan is in place. There will be a requirement to attend meetings and events in the evening and weekends for which time off in lieu will be given.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills

Essential 

  • A relevant third level qualification or a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role 
  • 2 years’ experience of managing, developing and motivating staff 
  • A minimum of 1 years experience of successful fundraising and applying to funders 
  • Experience of implementing a communications strategy and increasing audience reach 
  • Experience of engaging with a wide range of stakeholders and establishing networks 
  • Excellent administration and organisational skills 
  • Strong collaborative approach with staff and volunteers ensuring good team spirit 
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to effectively prioritise day to day workloads 
  • Flexible approach to be able to respond to changing priorities or circumstances 
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills 
  • Excellent written communication skills 
  • Ability to lead with vision and energy 
  • Ability to introduce and support change and look for continuous improvement 
  • Adhering to the core values of honesty, respectfulness and accountability 
  • Driving licence and access to a car 

Desirable

  • Experience of managing multiple projects within budget and to deadlines 
  • Experience of working in a membership organisation or charity
