Overview

What the role entails:

  • To respond to referrals for advocacy support and manage an individual caseload as allocated by the Service Manager
  • To build positive and meaningful relationships with Service Users/Carers and recognising Service Users/Carers as the Expert by Experience
  • To assist Service Users/Carers to explore their choices and options and support them in making an informed decision about potential courses of action without influence.
  • To advocate the views of the Service Users/Carers to decision makers
  • To support Service Users/Carers to express their own wishes, feelings and their lived experience.
  • To provide independent advocacy to Service Users who are making the transition from hospital to the community based on the principle of inclusion as required.
  • To maintain clear, concise and accurate records and prepare reports in line with data protection requirements.

What We Need from You:

  • Previous experience working in an advocacy role with children and adults with a learning disability and/or mental health needs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the issues relating to children and adults with a learning disability and/or mental health needs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles of advocacy.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including Mental Capacity as it applies to Northern Ireland
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written.
