Overview
What the role entails:
- To respond to referrals for advocacy support and manage an individual caseload as allocated by the Service Manager
- To build positive and meaningful relationships with Service Users/Carers and recognising Service Users/Carers as the Expert by Experience
- To assist Service Users/Carers to explore their choices and options and support them in making an informed decision about potential courses of action without influence.
- To advocate the views of the Service Users/Carers to decision makers
- To support Service Users/Carers to express their own wishes, feelings and their lived experience.
- To provide independent advocacy to Service Users who are making the transition from hospital to the community based on the principle of inclusion as required.
- To maintain clear, concise and accurate records and prepare reports in line with data protection requirements.
What We Need from You:
- Previous experience working in an advocacy role with children and adults with a learning disability and/or mental health needs.
- Knowledge and understanding of the issues relating to children and adults with a learning disability and/or mental health needs.
- Knowledge and understanding of the principles of advocacy.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation including Mental Capacity as it applies to Northern Ireland
- Good communication skills both verbal and written.
